There are several portable induction cooktops to choose from, but in my opinion the BergHOFF Induction Cooktop, model number 1810027 is one of the better ones. This is the single burner model from BergHOFF’s Studio lineup.
Who is BergHOFF anyway, you ask? Well, just because they don’t have a name like Cuisinart of KitchenAid – or any other very recognizable brand name that we have here in North America – don’t pass them by. They are a European company that has been designing quality, not to mention award winning, cookware for nearly 50 years.
I’m not going to go into the advantages of induction heating here, as I assume you already know them. If not, please refer to our hot plate reviews index page, and look at the section on induction burners.
BergHOFF Induction Cooktop 1810027 Pros & Cons
As with most of its competition, like the Eurodib Induction Cooktop, the BergHOFF Induction Cooktop comes with touch screen controls. It also has timer settings up to 180 minutes, a temperature range from 140 degrees to 464 degrees F. And again, it also has the standard safety features you’ll find in most portable induction cooktops. It will turn off if it recognizes there isn’t a pot or pan on the surface or if the pot isn’t induction compatible.
Where does the BergHOFF Induction Cooktop shine? It’s wattage! At 2000 watts of power it puts out more heat than most, if not all, of the other portable induction cooktops on the market. The BergHOFF cooktops are not just for cooking food; you can also use the controls and use the burner to simply warm foods.
Are there any drawbacks to the BergHOFF Induction Cooktop? Yep. At least in my opinion. The burner size is 10.25 inches, limiting you to 10 inch pots or pans, but frankly most of the other portable induction cooktops are the same. However, the burner size brings up another issue. Some people have complained about their units melting or cracking. This is NOT due to any sort of design flaw. This is due to people using the 1810027 in a way that wasn’t intended. And we should put part of the blame for that on Amazon.
The BergHOFF Induction Cooktops are not designed to be used with something like the Max Burton Interface Disk, yet Amazon entices you into buying it when buying the BergHOFF. Using pots that are larger than the burner, or using a disk can damage the unit, so don’t do it!
